I think you have the facts all wrong. I don't work for Sun or MS
so I can't say for sure exactly what happened, but I did follow the suit
in the press and everything I heard implied that MS was clearly violating
the license and that they were trying to add things to Java that would
invalidate its cross platform abilties.
As far as MS being a threat, its actually essential that MS
produce some form of Java product due to the huge amount of marketshare
they have, not only in operating systems but also in compilers. If I was
Sun, I would be very nice to MS and help them out in whatever manner was
possible, because they would be an important part of the acceptance of
Java.
