In light of the software discussion that's been going on, I have a
question. I'm currently developing a game and I am designing a new set of
mechanics for use with that game. At this point I have some foundation
code and the beginnings of a design document. My goal is the have the
design document describe all calculations and rules used in the game so
that if someone really wanted to, they could do all the calculations by
hand and even play pen and paper version.
So here are my questions: If I were to release the design
document under OGL before releasing my game, would I be required to GPL my
game's code? How about data files not included with the code? Now, same
two questions, but instead I release the design doc under OGL after I
release the game. If in the second situation I would not need to GPL the
game because it was released first, would I then have to GPL later
versions?
