d20 is more than an idea they are just thinking about.
the logo is on their books. numerous high rankers are
on board the idea. they are giving us stuff under NDAs
(allegedly), they are distilling the d20 document.
they have repeatedly indicated they would facilitate
an august release.
why take the risk? because you have to be ready to
sieze the best business opportunity and clearly the
best opportunity is to launch as close to the 3e
launch as possible before there are 100s of d20
companies. i think if you arent positioning yourself
to ride the wave of the 3e buzz then you are missing
out on a huge opportunity. of course, that is mostly
for people trying to make money at d20. if you want to
post a fan site or make alternate rules then timing is
less crucial. it is always better to be the 1st to
market then the 100th.
