But see, that's what I don't understand.  Why are some of you taking these
risks without knowing the future of D20 and/or the OGL?  No one from WotC has
promised anything.

Actually not true.
From what I can see... it is just an idea that they are
thinking about.  What will you do if WotC decides that the OGL and D20 are a
bad idea for now?
 
First off I think you are trolling the list. Secondly the OGL represents a protection for both WOTC and any game company that wants to  produce OGL content.  D20 and OGL have  long passed from "they are just thinking about stage". Thirdly life is full of risks, without some risk there is almost certainly no chance for profit ;-)
