WotC cannot "close" content that is already open. D&D3E is they
intellectual property and they can do with it what they want. They can
derive new games from their existing IP.
The only reason I can see for them not including the OGL in the Star Wars
game is the hassles (and lawsuits) that would follow if the Open Gaming
Community started using George Lucas' trademarks in their own OGL products.
I think they are covering their own butts and the Open Game Community's
collective butt as well. I can't imagine that they would not include some,
if not all, of the new sci-fi genre rules that are created from the game
into the D20SRD. They have to be careful about the trademark issue because
it could cost them a very lucrative product license not to mention the
potential for lawsuit.
