When I was new to these lists I thought that Ryan and Faust were working
together and that the OGF was Faust's deal. I also thought that the OGL
was being created by the OGF and that Ryan and the WotC legal team were
just being cool and supportive. I had no idea that the OGF was Ryan's
deal. Furthermore, I believed that WotC was so excited by the idea of
the OGF and Ryan's take on the Theory of Network Externalities that they
decided to further their support of it by turning d20 into an open
product.

After some painfully blunt and thankfully private posts my misconceptions
were somewhat clarified. (heh, if you think the conspiracy theorists are
bad in public you should see what they say in private. It's a
miracle/curse that I haven't given up yet). I don't blame the look of
Faust's FAQ for my confusion because the dynamics of these e-mail lists
supported my confusion.

What's confusing about "official" isn't Faust's FAQ. Sometimes it was
the only way to get an answer to my questions. That made him an
important leader in my mind.

In light of current events, I think the OGF should create an official
FAQ. Perhaps if Faust was willing to make changes his FAQ could be
official. If not, I say we make the design of an official OGF FAQ a
priority.
