I feel that they are correct.  Vitality has more of a connotation of 'energy'. 
In contrast to the hit points system that VP/WP replaces, which is hopelessly
abstract, a 'wound' is actual damage to a character.  In a vacuum, your
analysis would be correct, but you have to take the history of this topic into
consideration.
