Hi, illumos-gcc is used just for building Illumos itself. Userland gcc44 component is not yet in official repositories (I have it in my compiler migration repository at https://hg.openindiana.org/xenol/oi-build).
OI SFE has gcc 4.6.2 as I remember, so using it for building is vital.
