Nate and Dave,
Thanks for the help, and time spent on writing out the procedure. At present
the truck starts and appears to run fine. I did find the tri-angle stamp on
the FW, marked it with white correcting fluid, and hope to never have to see it
again.

The dynamic timing mark will be clear as a bell as it is a hole with
a steel BB jammed into it .
The TDC mark may be very faintly stamped , it will be either a
triangle (most common) or a chevron , I find it helpful to remove the
clutch scatter pan and rotate the engine with a leather glove (those
ring gear teeth are palm killers) untill I see the triangle and BB ,
I clean them up with a wire brush and then I use a white or yellow
lumber crayon to draw a circle 'round the BB and I work some crayon
into the triangle so it's easily visable through the timing window
above the starter motor .
Remove the spark plugs before you begin so the engine rotates easily .
Set the triangle to the timing pointer as the # 1 cylinder intake
valve has just closed and ensure the tip of the distributor rotor is
pointing at 6:00 ~ this is 90° dead away from the engine . make sure
when you re-install the dizzy that the oil pump tang has aligned else
you'll not get any oil pressure...
Engine all positioned ? good ~ now connect youe test light to the
points side of the ignition coil and ground it well (carby is always
my choice) and turn on the key , loosen the dizzy pinch clamp screw a
little bit and push the dizzy _counter_clockwise_ untill the test
light just goes out . if you have an uncut vacuum advance line , the
timing will want to drift so pay close attention .
Tighten the pinch clamp and re-install the spark plugs , ensure the
plug wires are in the correct order of : 1 , 5 , 3 , 6 , 2 , 4 . the
# 1 cylinder plug wire goes , naturally in line with the dizzy cap
nipple that lines up with the tip of the rotor .
This should get your engine started , remember to check and re-adjust
the valves as necessary once the engine gets fully warmed up .
I hope this helps....
