Thanks Kurt for the detailed picture of the table saw cuts. Were those cuts made by Dado blade or the hard way by making numerous passes across the blade? Anyway thanks again----a picture is always worth a thousand words! I haven't looked at my Lowes or HD at the Trex. I need to do that before I decide on hardwood. Enjoyed viewing pics of your project. All I can say is W O W!!! ken

(ouch) the extra thickness allowed me to recess the bed strips and angles under the top of the trex decking. this saves my painted strips and angles. all my cuts were made on a table saw as shown in this picture http://s306.photobucket.com/albums/nn255/_ogre/Mobile%20Uploads/?action=view¤t=0610001502.jpg and http://s306.photobucket.com/albums/nn255/_ogre/Mobile%20Uploads/?action=view¤t=0610001503.jpg since the trex is only 5.2'' wide i used 9 boards and 8 strips, normal wood is 8 boards and 7 strips. they do sell trim boards that are .65''x 7.2'' but i thought they were a little flimsy and would need extra support plus you need to cut the strips in almost a 1/4'', that would only leave .4'' remaining thickness. hd only carries gray trex around here, trex is available in 4 or 5 colors but it would depend on what is available locally know this: trex is slippery stuff. i use a blanket or cardboard to keep stuff from sliding around. otherwise, when you take off evrything slides back and when you brake everything slides forward. That trex should outlast the truck itself. Would you happen to have the part numbers of the bolts you bought from the Bolt Depot? My truck box did not come with any bolts for comparison sake so any help in that area is great Regards Pete Calgary --- On Sun, 10/31/10, K Ohlgren <kjohlg...@hotmail.com> wrote: > From: K Ohlgren <kjohlg...@hotmail.com> > Subject: RE: [old-chevy-truck] Replacing the bed wood in 52 1/2T > To: old-chevy-truck@yahoogroups.com > Date: Sunday, October 31, 2010, 12:01 PM > > ken > i bought all ss hardware from these guys http://www.boltdepot.com/ for a > third >of what old truck > suppliers wanted. > i bought these in boxes of 100, vs the 60 bolt sets they > suppy. > i bought ss fender and step bolts at the same time > my truck is not stock, so i hid the big bolts and did not > need the offset washer. > i also used trex composit decking for my ''wood'' > pics of my trex bed: >http://s306.photobucket.com/albums/nn255/_ogre/Mobile%20Uploads/?action=view¤t=1018001424.jpg >g >http://s306.photobucket.com/albums/nn255/_ogre/Mobile%20Uploads/?action=view¤t=1018001422.jpg >g >http://s306.photobucket.com/albums/nn255/_ogre/Mobile%20Uploads/?action=view¤t=1018001421.jpg >g > > Kurt > 58 3100 Apache project > the "Duracell Project" it keeps going... and going... > When I die, i want to go asleep and peaceful, not screaming > and freaking out like everyone else in the car. > > > > > > > > > > To: old-chevy-truck@yahoogroups.com > From: whetstone.retr...@yahoo.com > Date: Sun, 31 Oct 2010 17:39:19 +0000 > Subject: [old-chevy-truck] Replacing the bed wood in 52 > 1/2T > > > > > > > Hi everyone. > Am going to use a local hardwood supplier to replace > bedwood.
