Thanks for that info, however the engine we are trying to ID is in the later 
generation either 230, 250 or 292.

A friend has a chev six we are trying to ID. We know it is NOT a 216 or 235.
I believe he removed it from a Stude Lark but didn't think it was original.
Is there an easy way to distinguish between a 230, 250 or 292?
