I never meant that Yenko and Harrell were the only ones who got COPOs. Once Yenko started the ball rolling, all of the Chevy dealers wanted in on the action. It was money.

This was a bit removed from the original arguement to begin with. Once the muscle car craze started, all car manufacturers entered into a HP race. Corners were cut everywhere.

However, that didn't exist in the 1965 model year with the Olds 442. The craze hadn't quite gotten into full swing.

Having a 425 in a '65 442 is like saying that one could get a Pontiac 421 dual-quad 425 HP Super Duty in a '64 or '65 GTO direct from the factory, just by walking into the local Pontiac dealer. Wrong. However, if you were sponsored by Pontiac, Pontiac would ship to your local dealer of choice a Tempest in the white with a 421 Super Duty sitting in it. The car was in pure race form only and not in any way street legal.

Yenko and Harrell were not the only "dealers" to get COPO cars. Baldwin
Chevrolet, Joel Rosen, on Long Island had them, and also Berger Chevrolet in
Grand Rapid, MI sold a lot of them. There were also others, but don't
remember now.

A friend has a ;69 COPO Camaro he bought new at Berger. He sold it in '71
when he got married, and bought it back in about '95 for $50,000.00. He
then had it painted and rebuilt the 427. The car is complete and correct as it left the factory. He has been offered a ton for it. What is cool is that he kept ALL the paperwork from new, and the pictures of the day he picked it
up, etc.

My college roommate was from Canonsburg, PA. On a weekend we went to his
house from Ohio. We were going down a street about 2 blocks from his house, and I about had a wreck. I drove by Yenko Chevrolet and about broke my neck
looking back at it. This was '69. He couldn't understand what was so
special. Went back and looked at the inventory. Holy crap, 427 Yenkos
everywhere. He wasn't a gear head like me, and laughed about it. Should have
had a camera with me!!!
