In the past solaris kernel wasn't doing any bios calls? Identifying/eliminating those will help this. This will also allow the booting of 1T+ sized disks if I'm not mistaken? Vladimir (phcoder) has an initial zfs patch for grub2 that was posted on zfs-discuss recently. To test it you'll have to binary hack the kernel image or fix this bug..
