Tools -> Options -> Openoffice.org -> Memory
The bottom of this page may have the OpenOffice.org Quickstarter
section. If you have this and 'Enable systray Quickstarter' is
checked, uncheck it.

Dan's advice is correct.
However, your descriptive language belongs to version 3.4 and has been
fixed in version 3.4.1 update. Please check that you indeed have the
correct "latest" version.
