Hi Howard,

There are several ways to load MARC records into the system.

* As you already found, the Z39.50 interface allows you to search other catalogs, such as the Library of Congress. If you are retrieving no results, I suspect there is something that still needs to be done with your Z39.50 configuration. Others may be able to help you with that issue.

* You could import records into the system. For a small number of records, you can use the staff client to import records - http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.7/_importing_materials_in_the_staff_client.html. If you are migrating a large number of records from your current system to Evergreen, you may be better off not using the staff client. More info is available here - http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/2.7/_migrating_from_a_legacy_system.html.

* You (or the librarian at your school library) can manually add MARC records. Unfortunately, a lot of our cataloging documentation has not been moved up to recent versions of the docs, but our older docs should be able to get you started in the right place. http://docs.evergreen-ils.org/1.6/draft/html/cataloguing.html

I hope this helps!

Kathy

Hi Howard,

Evergreen does support original cataloging and importing MARC files from copy cataloging services. Are you familiar with MARC records or cataloging?

    Hi All,
So I'm evaluating Evergreen 2.7.4 for my school library and am
testing adding books but so far importing them from Z39 appears to
be the only way. I suppose I expect if I type in Algebra I'd get
100's pf books in the search results but I just get 1 with all the
    checkboxes checked.
How do I add a book manually and whats the best method to have
access to 1000s of titles like say Amazon.com?
How best can I use Evergreen as I basically want to be able to
have an inventory of the books on the shelves but most most get
found on the Z39 look up.
I suspect I'm missing something with Evergreen
    Thanks
