SLES10 SP3 Release Notes
(/usr/share/doc/release-notes/SUSE_Linux_Enterprise_Server_10/release-notes.txt)
say in "Chapter 5. Installation-Related Notes" (lines 316-338):

  ● MD Devices on top of iSCSI not possible

    iSCSI devices cannot be used for Linux Software RAID. Using MD devices on
    top of iSCSI triggers a cyclic dependency that leads to a crash.
