I see that too. The mountPoint and dev entries are created when you load 
vmblock for the first time but not after rmmod & modprobe. I will look into 
it.

You need both. Vmtoolsd is a system-wide daemon that is supposed to be started 
upon bootup. It provides core services, such as time synchronization, power 
management, guest info infrastructure, etc. Vmware-user is a session-wide 
process that is supposed to be started when user starts a graphical session 
and provides drag and drop and other facilities related to user interface.

You need to make sure that X uses VMware's mouse driver, not the stock Xorg's 
one.
