You sure?

Using Hibernate or any other ORM technology to implement "CFC Persistence"
is one solution to the problem, but not necessarily the best one.

That isn't what Vince said at all.

What Vince was saying, was to look at the end goal -- what is ORM
actually providing the CFML developer. What is the problem we are
solving and then, ONLY THEN, do we look at the HOW.

I think we'll all agree that sometimes even other major CFML engines get
it wrong with their implementation. Not everything they kick out is
perfect or even well thought out. CFSCRIPT is your classic. Their
recent Spreadsheet integration is a complete mess, which is a shame
because they could have done so much better.

So, for ORM, as it is such an advance feature that I am sure the vast
majority of CFML developers will not use, isn't going to be picked up
instantly and may take many years to realise the real power.

Therefore there is no panic to rush to support a feature that another
engine is offering. There is time to have discussions and open dialogue
to figure out what people really need as oppose to what they think they
need.

I have no view either way. There has been no discussion as to what we
are doing, merely a tick on a list to say "yeah we should look at that
someday when someone brings it up". You've brought it up. Great.

Discussions like these in open forums is _vital_ to the success of the
CFML language. A reason I believe the CFML Language Advisory Panel
should be a public discussion mailing list, and not a private affair.
But my views on how that process can run can be left to another day.

So debate, discuss, lets hear what you have to say when it comes to ORM.
