slightly off-topic .. but i believeit will rise wonderfully well to it. After all, isn't NoSQL a beautiful means of storing a POJO? We've been doing a lot with MongoDB over the last year, and the integration to Java (and OpenBD) is a complete breeze with absolutely non of the headaches that traditional java.sql.Connection connectivity brings.

I do not believe the NoSQL movement is at a stage yet, where we can think of a standardized layer (read API) to them. Though there are efforts to give that, i haven't seen anything stand out yet as a must use solution.
