Sorry didn't quite finish my thought--not that this isn't possible, but since this is default Twitter Bootstrap stuff I have a feeling if it was a total meltdown for IE 8 they'd have a lot of complaints. Hence my suspicion about compatibility mode because it completely borks everything up.
