I'd recommend against trying to customize the root prompt, as that implies you'll be running as root often enough for it to matter. Use sudo instead.
However, to figure out whats going on, try running `. /root/.kshrc` (starts with a dot) to see if the .kshrc file will do what you want. Once it does, add that to your .profile (or even add the commands to the .profile).
