You don't even have to make it M2-enabled, if it's not yet. It'd be an excellent piece of code to work on by others who are still unsure how to contribute. Could you please create a package of the sample (jar, zip, tgz, whatever) and rise an jira issue with the package as attachement? While doing it, please select "Grant license to ASF for inclusion in ASF works (as per the Apache Software License ยง5)" and remove any license headers from the files.
