Converting an image file to OpenEXR format will not add new information
that wasn't already in the original file. If you convert a JPEG file
to OpenEXR, then you can change the exposure within the viewer, but
you won't see anything that you couldn't see by viewing the JPEG image
directly. OpenEXR is a file format, not an image enhancement tool.

Most of the OpenEXR sample images were generated by combining multiple
exposures. A few images were shot with a special high-dynamic-range
camera; the rest are computer-generated.

Hi,

This is a quote on the OpenEXR page :

"You can reveal more detail in OpenEXR images by changing the exposure using
the Exposure slider."

My question is if I take one photo and then adjust the exposure within the
OpenEXR viewer can I create "real" HDRI images without taking multiple
photos? Or will this not capture the full dynamic range like taking a
traditional HDRI.

Thanks,
