I am also having troubles with mod_ftp. Here is my syslog output when I attempt to connect:

> Nov 6 21:02:56 openfiler httpd(pam_unix)[5496]: authentication failure; logname= uid=48 euid=48 tty= ruser= rhost= user=andrereis

> Nov 6 21:02:56 openfiler httpd[5496]: pam_ldap: error trying to bind as user "uid=andrereis,ou=People,dc=mesh2,dc=com" (Invalid credentials)

> Nov 6 21:02:56 openfiler pam_winbind[5496]: write to socket failed!
> Nov 6 21:02:56 openfiler pam_winbind[5496]: internal module error retval = 3, user = `andrereis'

It seems to be trying to get the users from the 'ou=People' ldap category, and they're not being stored there, I believe.

I have also experienced your "connection closed" issue, but in a past installation. I am really looking forward to the 2.2 release with integrated LDAP server, it should help getting things together.

Andre

Tim,

I believe ftp functionality is broken at this time. I encountered the
same exact problem, one day it worked, next day connection closed every
time I logged in. I'm running 2.1 final. Maybe a confirmation would be
good Rafiu?

Hi there,

Well, I'm using Openfiler for a long time now. The version in use is
2.0 B2 (afaik). Everything worked fine, but by now mod_ftp seems to have
a malfunction. Ok, I don't know what's exactly the problem, because all
other Services (including WebDAV, NFS and Samba) are running just fine.
Only mod_ftp does not work anymore (it worked before, nothing changed in
the configuration!).

If a client tries to login via FTP, he get's the username / password
prompt. After giving in the correct credentials, the FTP-program says
"connection closed". Nothing more. If I give the wrong credentials, the
server asks again for the credentials...
With wrong credentials, the Apache, or better, the mod_ftp is not
segfaulting, but with the right credentials it does.

[Tue Nov 07 04:44:26 2006] [error] (2)No such file or directory: Error
attaching to shared memory
[Tue Nov 07 04:44:58 2006] [notice] child pid 2419 exit signal
Segmentation fault (11)

I just changed the memory modules, but I'm not able to change the
motherboard nor I'm able to change the CPU. Ok, call me stupid, but the
fact is, that the malfunction might depend on the software, not on the
hardware.

Maybe I should try switching to OF 2.1, but is there a chance to keep
the volumes and the data?

Regards,

Tim Korves
