Hi all

I'm attempting to run OF as a VM under VMware server for the first time, and
have run into a few problems regarding disks

I have a 3Ware 9500S with 8 disk in 2 raid 5 arrays of 4 disks each. The
host OS (CentOS 5) sees these as /dev/sda and /dev/sdb with no problems.
I've created an msdos partition table and ext3 partition on sda, and a gpt
partition table on sdb, but no partitions. If I assign sda1 and sdb to the
VM (direct access), /dev/sda shows up in the Physical storage mgmt page, and
clicking on the disk shows that /dev/sda1 exists, but is an unknown
partition type, and is unassignable. Furthermore, any other partitions
created are unusable. sdb is ok though.

I need to have two partitions on sda, one available to the OF VM and one
not.

I have a feeling that the problems I'm having is to do with the partition
table type, but couldn't be sure.

Also, even before I assigned the extra disks to the OF VM, the OF OS seems
to think that sda-sdo exist, which slows down the boot process considerably
- anyone know how t get rid of them?

regards

Frank
