Yes, if opensm has not gotten far enough, osmtest will fail. The SM must initialize the subnet and get to the point where it is ready to process SA MADs. Just to be sure, what osmtest failure did you see ? > and running multiple copies of opensm on different systems. Not sure what that would fail. The other SMs should be standbys.
