He was really asking for SATA host bus adapters.
There are tons of horror stories out there, primarily thru the ZFS mailing list.
The bad news comes with using SATA drives via SAS expanders, i.e. it's not a good idea to use SATA drives in SAS JBODs. (A SATA drive directly connected to a host bus SAS port is usually fine however.)
