I think it may be this:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/76712720/typeerror-unsupported-
operand-types-for-type-and-nonetype
Both meld's web site and meld's gitlab page says it only requires Python
3.4.7 or later, but that "type | None" syntax is apparently a Python
3.10+
thing.
The first answer on the stackoverflow site has a couple of workarounds
involving other modules. You might try hack your copy to use one of
them,
to see if that fixes it.
I don't know for certain if this will work, assuming you have other
python
runtimes installed, you could instead try something like
/usr/bin/python3.14 /usr/bin/meld file1.xml file2.xml
to see if the problem goes away.

IMHO, meld needs rebuild with python 3.14...
a) There is obviously no meld module present for python 3.14:
:; /usr/bin/python3.14 /usr/bin/meld file1.xml file2.xml
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/meld", line 98, in <module>
import meld.conf # noqa: E402
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'meld'
b) Python 3.9 is still default one:
:; pkg mediator python
MEDIATOR VER. SRC. VERSION IMPL. SRC. IMPLEMENTATION
python local 3.9 vendor
Thanks anyway
We cannot switch to 3.14 at the moment. IPS depends heavily on the
python version and some additional packages.
As for meld we cannot switch to python 3.14 either because we miss some
python packages for 3.14 (eg. pygobject). Anybody willing to work on it?
