After a few upgrades on my gentoo the whole thing stopped working!!!
(The kernel was *not* updated.)

Now neither irxfer or ircp work!

I digged a little and could see that a few modules that were previoulsy
automatically loaded (by udev?) now they are not!

I used modprobe to load them. No success after that however.

Syslog related lines:
Sep 9 22:37:23 HAL0002 kernel: ali-ircc, driver loaded (Benjamin Kong)
Sep 9 22:37:23 HAL0002 kernel: Device driver irda0 lacks bus and class
support for being resumed.
Sep  9 22:37:23 HAL0002 kernel: IrDA: Registered device irda0
Sep  9 22:37:23 HAL0002 kernel: ali_ircc_open(), ali-ircc, Found dongle:
HP HSDL-3600

Is there anything I could look at? Some device that should perhaps be
created and is not?

Before, when irxfer worked, the syslog was:
