Thanks for your work on OpenOCD!

Your suggested design sounds like a reasonable approach to me.

Does the same IO watchpoint always trigger for both write and read?
Otherwise the 'i' option might be better as a modifier to the r/w/a
alternatives, as opposed to as an individual option.

If the code is already written, it's fine to push the changes to Gerrit
first and start a discussion later. It might be easier to form an opinion
if the code is available, as few people know the affected parts by heart.

By the way, would your company be interested in providing boards to core
OpenOCD developers? It would be nice to be able do regression
testing/sanity checking during major changes and I for one have no access
to Quark hardware.
