I do understand some thing better now than I did before. What I am doing is to extend a Kolab installation which uses openpkg 2.4. I think it may be much better to use multipe openpkg instances for this but I wanted to try to install samba into the openpkg instance created by kolab. The failure of the samba build might be caused by kolab's openldap package which is (AFAIK )not a standard openkg package (I don't have access to the kolab installation at the moment, so I can't verify).
