~2 years ago I extended the command line utilities to use pin options
much like openssl - with options for using environment variables, file
descriptors etc. It also had an explicit 'pinpad' option to force the
use of pinpad.

Can't remember what happened to it, but i'll try to locate the source
code. It might be useful! I was especially interested in the pinpad
option (that now works differently as you can enable/disable pinpad in
a configuration file) It would not make sense to have "--change-pin
--oldpin 1234 --newpin pinpad" anyway....

yep, that would be nice as the current config file method is
sometimes somewhat clumsy
