I knew this was something stupid. Sorry for wasting your time. For future
reference, my mistake was that I was initialising my _whole_ scene, including
the sky, in the initScene() method of my App class. That method is called
before the contextInit() method of the base class (OpenSGApp) is called, and
the viewport is initialized in that method, so it was obviously a null pointer
at that point.

Thanks for helping open my eyes...

Though now I see that the images I have don't have the right names, but that I
can sort out easily. Thanks again,
