We haven't gotten around to that, and will probably change the structure
for 2.0 anyway, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for it.

If you use a current version, no (and it's not in CVS anymore). The
patch was necessary to make FTGL play nice with OpenSG's GL object
handling, but with the latest changes to that stock FTGL works fine.
