can you manually expand a window to cover more than one screen? in other
words does the problem only exist when using the command line option?
if you can not get it to work manually there is still a problem with the
configuration of your displays in X.
another thing to test would be to try to get glxgears to cover both
screens by passing the -geometry command line option.
