We are using .NET on the back end.  I searched around and found xome
working code for .NET here:  http://www.codeplex.com/myspacetoolkit.
It is specific to MySpace but could easily be abstracted I think.  The
nice thing for me was to be able to put together a working sample
application using the REST API.  It doesn't do much yet, but it is
always easier to grok something new by doing it than by reading about
it.  How did it go hitting orkut using the java implementation?
