The newly-minted AtomPub protocol spec is RFC 5023; the Atom format/syntax
spec is RFC 4287. It's a bit confusing[1], which is why I was careful to
give the RFC number. For those who care:

The OpenSocial APIs are taken from GData. Historically, GData is based on
RFC 4287 and predates the AtomPub protocol spec. There are efforts underway
to sync GData with RFC 5023 without breaking backwards compatibility.
Blogger for example uses GData and we've been participating actively in
AtomPub interop testing (I'm also the engineering manager for Blogger).

Will OpenSocial APIs add RFC 5023 compatibility?  I personally don't know;
it hasn't been a high priority for OpenSocial yet. If it does happen, it
would be done in a backwards compatible way, using a mechanism that would
allow clients to opt-in to the new version. What would the benefits of RFC
5023 be? Offhand, perhaps easier discovery via workspace documents, easier
syncing via app:edited... thoughts?
