Many people have been asking for an announce list. I have no clue why we didn't have one all along, but I think we've just been using discuss as our announce list from back in the pilot. We'd like to distribute the announcement process among the community, rather than having it all filter through a small group or an individual. So, any community member can make announcements -- a new distribution, an event, a conference speaker, a new code release, a new user group, or whatever. The list is not for discussion, though, and it is our only moderated list for just this reason. Just announce something. From that pool of announcements, the program team can choose a subset (major and/or project-wide news only) to put on the announcements page on the front page of the website.
