4. Technical Description
Proposal:

        Integrate unrar into OpenSolaris

Release Binding:

        Minor

Detail:
Unrar is a commandline utility to list, test and extract files from
popular RAR archives. Adding unrar to OpenSolaris will also extend
file-roller utility on OpenSolaris. file-roller is ready to support
RAR format but the actual extraction utility (either "rar" or
"unrar") has to be in the path. This info comes from file-roller source
        code of file-roller, version 2.22.3 (snv_96).

unrar does not provide any functionality to create RAR archives. This
functionality is provided by WinRAR and RAR utilities, which are not
not open sourced, so they cannot be ported to OpenSolaris.

The current version of unrar is 3.8.2 at the time of this case.

Note, that p7zip is also able to extract RAR files. However, since
the RAR format is rather popular and unrar utility can be found in all
major Linux distribution it still makes sense to have it ported to
OpenSolaris (it is not a common knowledge to use p7zip for extracting
        RAR files).

Exported Interfaces:

        SUNWunrar Uncommitted Package name
        /usr/bin/unrar Committed Executable location
        unrar Volatile Commandline syntax

Documentation Impact:

New man page unrar(1) (see case directory).
