I think tcpdump helps Solaris pass the "warm fuzzy feeling"-test that people take when they take their first steps on a new platform. As such, it is a good thing to have, even though there might be better alternatives. Of course, this applies to a lot of programs, but I think for many administrators, tcpdump is on the top of their lists. Also, even though wireshark might be the preferred open source candidate for us, tcpdump is here to stay for a long time. Joep
