This is easy enough to change if needed.

The following seems clear:

1) we need to support multiple, coexisting versions of gcc.
2) If any version of gcc is installed, it should appear
    in the user's default path.

Note that the same "find it easily, but support multiple
versions" is needed by Studio, python, perl, ....

This means we need verexec:
