Well, I remember on the discussion wrt. linux vs NPTL threads and supported number of threads: Some ppl asked "why so many threads" and the answer was "because we can" ... ;-) On the bottom line: If you're sitting in an ivory tower, don't expect that everybody tells you, what he needs. Often he just disqualifies the thing in question and chooses to live/support the alternative(s) aka "path of least resistance" ...
