Note: This should not be used if possible. I have plans for it - and I
am not sure whether the current API will surive them (as noted it only
needs a "consolidation flag day" to get rid of a private API if
unneeded/unsuited (and based on IRC comments the remaning API (much of
it was already scrapped during Solaris 10 development) in libcmd is not
very popular among developers... ;-/ )) ...
