That is of course utter bullshit.  The Linux kernel doesn't require
a specific gcc version.  Right now everything from gcc 3.2 up to 4.1 works
very nicely and as Rainer mentioned people compile with mainline regularly
to find bugs both in the Linux kernel and gcc.
