Thanks for the help. This machine belongs to a 90-year-old lady who has the
patience less than that of a three-year-old boy. I found it much easier to
re-install the whole system than playing with something that I am not familiar
with. But I will practice your suggestions in some of my own machine(s).

However, as you and James discussed in a separate reply, the DHCP client config
needs to be better (an understatement) implemented (& _documented_) in Solaris,
especially now that almost everyone has a dumb DHCP server (broadband router)
at home. The situation becomes almost hopeless when I have to use a public
wifi access. The selection of "UNKNOWN" as the default hostname if the DHCP
server does not give you one (as none of the consumer broadband routers do),
probably best describes the dire situation that we are in now. (Most of us
would think UNKNOWN means "unknown", something that will/should raise your
attention. Unless you know what's going on, no one will think that 'UNKNOWN'
means the hostname that your machine has been designated by the operating
system. Something like "undesignated" may be a better choice.)
