Can you show us the exact commands you used together with error
messages? Just copy/paste them in a follow up.

When you installed OpenSolaris 2008.05 you gave a userid/passwd and that
user has full admin rights given that the admin commands are prefixed
with pfexec.

So, logged in at this initial user, "pfexec pkg install openoffice" will
install openoffice for you. Otherwise switch user to root (su -) and
give the root passwd you set at installation. Your prompt will turn to #
and use the same command (excluding pfexec).
