In my case I would be looking for a minimal graphical install with X. I have seen a number of posts from people looking for an OpenSolaris server install with no X. I have directed them to Milax server to them several times. Otherwise it is SXDE which is also cool too.
I come from a debian/ubuntu background. So I am used to seeing a server/minimal install, a lightweight desktop and the usual kde/gnome install cd's. I do see on the opensolaris forums/lists some demand for the server version in addition to the desktop. With a server version you could then install the xserver and whatever minimal desktop you want. XFCE4, Fluxbox, JVM, Lxde, etc I am long term positive about the IPS. Will Milax be IPS in future versions? I also understand that Indiana/2008.05/11 or whatever we call it is still a relatively new thing. I also understand that Milax is essentially a one man + band. So I hope I am seen as offering suggestions and not just whinging. Overall I am pretty positive about OpenSolaris. I am busy torrenting SNV 99 to put on my laptop. If I can get GPRS working on it I plan to try working from it. As long as OpenOffice 3.0 works and I can get an internet I should be good for most things. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
