Exactly. Please hit `e' to edit grub menu entry, hit `e' once again after selecting appropriate line (appropriate one is one containing `kernel') and append flags at the end. When done editing, hit `b' to boot.

Thanks. That's good to hear and what I thought should be the case as well. I assume then to add the -kdv flags I edit the grub menu and add that to the end of the boot command.
