Loading grub, the Solaris kernel and the x86.microroot from
the SATA CD is done by the system's BIOS and doesn't need
Solaris device driver support.

So, booting the LiveCD from a SATA CD connected to
the Silicon Image 3132 SATA controller might work just
fine with the help of BIOS, but installing from the
SATA CD should not work if the si3124 driver doesn't
support SATA/ATAPI ...


The way I understand the initial message in this thread
was that Mike did install from the SATA CD - but maybe
that is wrong (and the media was moved from the
SATA CD to the PATA CD) ...
