Any idea which program is crashing?

You could try mount the new BE from the old one,
and check for core dump files in the new BE.
"pflags core"  and "pstack core" output would be
needed to diagnose the problem...


Or is this a kernel panic, and not a user program
segmentation fault?  In this case, try to boot
the kernel with options "-kv".  Remove any
splash image, foreground and background commands
from the grub boot entry; remove the console=graphics
kernel boot option, and add options "-kv" at the
end of the kernel boot line.
